A round wide basket in black with colorful triangles. Basket weaving has been practiced in Senegal for generations. This basket has been woven by women artisans of Wolof community. Baskets are traditionally woven by binding cattail stalks, a thick local grass, with thin strips of palm frond. Palm fronds are difficult to work with and are rough on the hands of the weavers, so strips of plastic have replaced palm fronds to reduce discomfort during the weaving process. Plastic used for basket weaving is recycled from prayer mats.
This basket measures 20" in diameter and 5" in height. This is a handcrafted item, so product may vary slightly in color and craft from the images.
This product is made in Senegal, Africa.
