Extra Large Yellow and White Storage Basket with Lid from Senegal
Basket weaving has been practiced in Senegal for generations by Wolof community. Traditionally baskets are woven by binding cattail stalks, a thick local grass, with thin strips of palm frond. Palm fronds are difficult to work with and are rough on the hands of the weavers, so strips of plastic have replaced palm fronds to reduce discomfort during the weaving process. Plastic used for basket weaving is recycled from prayer mats.
This is a handwoven extra large basket with white and yellow plastic ribbons. Basket measures 14" in diameter and 19" in height. Basket has cut out handles and a lid. Use this basket to stow away all your extra blankets, throws and pillows. This is a handcrafted item, so product may vary slightly in color and craft from the images.
This product is made by women artisans in Senegal, Africa.
